The development of telecommunications in Iran is roughly equivalent to the United States. Under the country code +98, there were a total of 180.02 million connections in 2023. Among them were 151.00 million mobile phones, which corresponds to an average of 1.7 per person. In the US, this figure is 1.2 mobile phones per person.
Values above 100 percent mean that, on average, every inhabitant has more than one connection. Iran is lagging behind in the expansion of broadband internet connections. Around 82 percent of all residents have access to the internet.

The upload rate of only 4.0 Mbit/second was significantly lower (149th place). In mobile internet, i.e., on tablets and smartphones, Iran comes 72nd with a download speed of 38.88 Mbit/second.
